This Privacy Policy describes how Kaleeg (“Kaleeg,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects information when you visit kaleeg.online (the “Site”). It also describes the rights you have over your personal information and how to contact us with questions or requests. By using the Site, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.
1. Who We Are
Kaleeg is an independent online publication that provides general information about mental health care in the United States. We are not a healthcare provider and we do not provide medical, psychological, psychiatric, or therapeutic services. The data controller for this Site is Kaleeg, contactable at support@kaleeg.online.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information You Provide Directly
- Contact information when you email us, submit a contact form, or otherwise reach out (e.g., name, email address, the contents of your message).
- Comments you choose to leave on articles, including any name, email address, website URL, and message content. Comments may be retained indefinitely so that follow-up replies can be recognised and approved automatically.
- Newsletter or subscription information if you opt in (email address; subscription preferences).
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
Like most websites, we automatically collect certain information when you visit the Site, including:
- IP address (which may be truncated or hashed for analytics).
- Browser type, browser version, and operating system.
- Device type, screen resolution, and approximate location derived from IP (typically city or region level).
- Referring URL, the pages you view, time spent on each page, and exit pages.
- Date and time of access.
- Cookies and similar identifiers (see our Cookie Policy).
2.3 Information from Third Parties
We may receive information about you from third-party services we use to operate the Site, including analytics providers, advertising partners (such as Google), content delivery networks, hosting providers, and security/anti-abuse services.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information described above to:
- Operate, maintain, and improve the Site and its content.
- Respond to inquiries, support requests, and feedback.
- Personalise the user experience (for example, remembering display preferences).
- Display advertising, including personalised advertising where permitted (see Section 5).
- Measure traffic, engagement, and the effectiveness of our content.
- Detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, security incidents, and policy violations.
- Comply with legal obligations, enforce our Terms of Service, and protect our rights.
4. Cookies, Pixels, and Similar Technologies
The Site uses cookies and similar technologies (such as web beacons, pixels, local storage, and SDKs in embedded content) to operate, secure, analyse, and monetise the Site. For full details on the categories we use, examples of specific cookies, retention periods, and how to manage your preferences, please see our Cookie Policy.
5. Advertising and Google AdSense / Google Ad Manager
The Site is monetised in part through advertising. We participate in advertising programs operated by Google, including Google AdSense and Google Ad Manager, and we may also work with other certified advertising networks and exchanges. The disclosures in this section are required by Google’s publisher policies and by various data-protection laws.
5.1 Third-Party Vendors and Ad Networks
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies and identifiers to serve ads based on your prior visits to this Site and other websites on the internet.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our Site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings page. You may opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info (Digital Advertising Alliance) and www.youronlinechoices.eu (European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance).
5.2 The DoubleClick / DART Cookie
- Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on our Site, including the DoubleClick DART cookie.
- The DART cookie enables Google and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visits to this Site and other sites on the Internet.
- Users may opt out of the use of the DART cookie and personalised advertising by visiting the Google ads and content network privacy policy.
5.3 Google Ad Manager and Programmatic Partners
- If we use Google Ad Manager, ad inventory may be made available to authorised demand partners, supply-side platforms (SSPs), demand-side platforms (DSPs), data-management platforms (DMPs), measurement vendors, and verification providers, each of which may set their own cookies and identifiers.
- A current list of Google’s certified ad technology providers is available at support.google.com/admanager/answer/9012903.
5.4 Personalised vs. Non-Personalised Ads
- For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, we rely on a Consent Management Platform (CMP) compatible with the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework (TCF) and Google’s Additional Consent specification to obtain consent for personalised advertising as required by the ePrivacy Directive and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
- If you do not consent, you may still see non-personalised ads served using contextual signals (such as the page topic) rather than your prior browsing.
- For users in California, we honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal where technically feasible as an opt-out of “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising under the CCPA/CPRA.
5.5 Children and Personalised Advertising
- Our content is not directed at children under 13. Where Google’s tools are configured to treat traffic as child-directed, only non-personalised ads will be served, in compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar laws.
5.6 Sponsored, Affiliate, and Native Content
- We disclose sponsored content, paid placements, and affiliate links clearly and conspicuously. See our Advertising Disclosure for full details.
6. Analytics
We use third-party analytics services (such as Google Analytics or comparable privacy-respecting tools) to understand how visitors use the Site. These services may use cookies, IP addresses (often truncated), and event data to produce aggregate reports. We do not use analytics to identify individual users. Where required, IP anonymisation is enabled. For Google Analytics, you may install the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-On.
7. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information for money. We may share information in the following circumstances:
- Service providers: hosting, analytics, advertising, email delivery, security, and similar vendors who process information on our behalf under contract.
- Advertising partners: as described in Section 5, advertising partners may receive cookie identifiers, IP address, user-agent, and page context to serve and measure ads.
- Legal compliance: when required by law, valid legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Kaleeg, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, in which case we will provide notice as required by law.
- With your consent: for any other purpose disclosed at the time and with your permission.
Some of the data sharing for advertising described above may qualify as “sale” or “sharing” of personal information under California law. See Section 10 for the rights this gives you.
8. Data Retention
We retain personal information only for as long as is necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy or as required by law. Approximate retention periods include:
- Email correspondence and support requests: up to 24 months after resolution.
- Comments: indefinitely while the article is published, unless deletion is requested.
- Server and security logs: typically 30 to 180 days.
- Analytics data: typically up to 14 months in identifiable form, then aggregated.
- Advertising cookies: see our Cookie Policy for retention by category.
9. Your Rights Under the GDPR (EEA, UK, Switzerland)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have the following rights with respect to your personal data:
- Right of access to your personal data.
- Right to rectification of inaccurate data.
- Right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”).
- Right to restriction of processing.
- Right to data portability.
- Right to object to processing, including direct marketing.
- Right to withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent.
- Right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.
The lawful bases on which we process personal data include consent (for advertising/analytics cookies and newsletter sign-ups), legitimate interests (operating the Site, security, fraud prevention, basic measurement), and legal obligation (responding to lawful requests). To exercise any right, email support@kaleeg.online with the subject line [Privacy].
10. Your Rights Under the CCPA / CPRA (California)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to:
- Know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, and share.
- Request access to and a copy of your personal information.
- Request deletion of your personal information.
- Request correction of inaccurate personal information.
- Opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising.
- Limit the use of sensitive personal information.
- Be free from discrimination for exercising your rights.
To exercise these rights, email support@kaleeg.online or use any “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link displayed on the Site. We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal as an opt-out of sale/sharing where technically feasible.
11. Children’s Privacy (COPPA)
The Site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact support@kaleeg.online and we will take steps to delete such information promptly.
12. International Transfers
Kaleeg is operated from outside the European Economic Area. When personal data is transferred internationally, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), adequacy decisions, or other lawful transfer mechanisms.
13. Data Security
We implement reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal information against loss, misuse, unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. No internet transmission or storage system is 100% secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
14. Third-Party Links and Embeds
The Site contains links to third-party websites and may include embedded content (such as videos or social media posts). Those third parties have their own privacy practices, which we do not control. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of any third-party services you use.
15. Do Not Track
Some browsers send a “Do Not Track” (DNT) signal. There is no industry consensus on how to interpret DNT, so we do not currently respond to DNT signals. However, we honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal as described in Section 10.
16. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last Updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be communicated through a notice on the Site. Your continued use of the Site after the effective date of an updated Privacy Policy constitutes your acceptance of the changes.
